About This Species

I see this fern on the river banks when canoeing on the Pine Barren rivers.

There are opposing branches coming off the main stem. Separate oval leaflets are attached without stems to these branches. The spores are borne on much smaller leaflets which may be present on branches at the tips of the fronds.
