This fern is quite common in the upland woods of the Pine Barrens. If you see a fern in a relatively 'dry' place in the Pine Barrens, it will probably be the Bracken Fern.

This fern usually has a single vertical stem that divides into three horizontal fronds. This is our only fern that has this characteristic.
